Meet Cooper – Our Beloved Therapy Dog
Cooper joined the Clay Hill School team in September 2023 and has been winning hearts ever since. Fully certified and trained to deliver Animal-Assisted Therapy, Cooper has worked hard to master the skills needed to support our students overcoming his own challenges along the way. Whether it’s a structured therapeutic intervention or simply offering a comforting presence, Cooper is here every day to make a difference.
Students can spend time with Cooper in a therapy session, take him along on off-site enrichment activities, or enjoy a quiet moment with him in the sensory room (he gives the best snuggles!). His calm and reassuring nature helps reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation, and build confidence benefits that are especially valuable for children with additional needs. Research shows that therapy dogs can also encourage communication, promote social interaction, and even boost motivation for learning and Cooper does all of this with a wagging tail and a gentle nudge.
Cooper isn’t just a dog; he’s a trusted member of our school community. Every child and staff member at Clay Hill knows the joy he brings and the positive impact he has on wellbeing. Whether he’s lending a paw during a tough day or celebrating achievements alongside our students, Cooper is always ready to help because sometimes, the best therapy comes on four legs.
