Life at Clay Hill School for Parents & Carers

We know that when a child joins our school, their whole family is part of the journey. That’s why we keep communication open, expectations clear and support consistent so you always feel informed and involved.

Below, you’ll find practical information about day-to-day life at Clay Hill School.

We encourage our pupils to wear the Clay Hill School uniform—a collared sweatshirt and jumper—as a way to feel part of our community and show pride in our school. However, we understand that for some children, wearing a uniform can be a real barrier to attending school positively.
Our priority is ensuring every child feels comfortable and able to attend. That’s why we take a flexible approach. Through discussion with tutor teams and parents/carers, we can adapt the uniform to meet individual needs.
If you believe wearing the school uniform may be difficult for your child, please contact their tutor. We’ll work together to find a solution that supports your child and helps them feel confident and included.
When pupils join Clay Hill School, we provide two free sweatshirts and one school jumper to help them feel part of our community from day one.
If additional uniform items are needed in the future, these can be purchased easily through School Kit. You can visit their website here: www.skoolkit.co.uk

We are committed to providing every pupil with a free, nutritious lunch each day. A healthy meal is essential for boosting energy, supporting growth, and promoting overall wellbeing.
Our lunches are freshly cooked on site and pupils choose their meals each week during their tutor check-in sessions. Wherever possible, we work with parents and carers to adapt meals to meet specific dietary requirements.
For pupils at our Home Farm School site (approximately six miles from the main site), we provide freshly prepared cold lunches, including sandwiches and salads, made at Clay Hill School and delivered daily.
To promote cultural capital, British values, and SMSC, we also offer themed lunches throughout the year to celebrate diversity. These include festive meals such as a traditional Christmas lunch, Chinese dishes for Chinese New Year, Indian cuisine for Diwali, and many more.

At Clay Hill School, we believe strong communication between home and school is key to supporting every child’s success and wellbeing. Here’s how we keep you informed and involved throughout the year:
• Weekly Contact
Your child’s tutor team will call you each week to share updates and discuss any concerns or achievements.
• Autumn Term – Home-School Meeting
In Autumn 1, parents and carers are invited to a meeting either face-to-face or remotely to discuss how your child has settled into the term. This meeting focuses on wellbeing and pastoral progress.
• Spring Term – Progress Report
At the start of Spring 1, you will receive a detailed progress report. This includes:
o Attendance
o Current attainment in each subject
o Target grades for the end of the summer term
o A form tutor comment summarising progress
• Summer Term – End-of-Year Report
In Summer 2, you will receive a comprehensive end-of-year report. This combines the Spring report with additional comments on personal development and a summary from a senior leader.
Our aim is to ensure you feel informed, supported, and involved in your child’s journey every step of the way.

Our child is well cared for and understood by those working closely with her. We feel she has great relationships with adults supporting her, and staff have a very good balance of having high expectations while also offering the nurture and support that is needed. Our daughter is recognised as an individual and she always wants to go to school. Communication is great and a handover at the end of the day is always given, if needed. There is a strong sense of 'belonging' and feeling valued, which makes the world of difference.
