How we support your child's future

We’re determined to help young people prepare for their future, not just with qualifications, but with the confidence, knowledge and real-world experience to take their next steps with purpose.

Careers advice and guidance at every stage

We start the journey early, with forward planning included from Year 7 onwards. From there, students receive tailored careers guidance, practical experience and one-to-one support to help them build a clear and achievable pathway to post-16 education, training or employment.

We understand that young people have different career guidance needs at different stages. As such, opportunities for advice and support is tailored to the needs of each pupil. The school’s careers programme embeds equality and diversity considerations throughout. Coxlease are ever developing the curriculum in order to meet the diverse needs of pupils including the 14- 16 programme at Totton College, introduction of The Build2 Prep4 programme and a wide range of taster days at local colleges to support young people’s understanding of pathways.

We follow the Gatsby Benchmarks, preparing young people for adulthood and life beyond school—whether that’s further education, employment, apprenticeships or training.

Work experience opportunities

Year 11 pupils are given the opportunity to take part in our well-established work experience programme. We take great care to tailor work placements to pupils’ needs, fitting the industry, role and placement duration around the individual. For example, some pupils will carry out their work placement one day per week for half a term, whereas others will complete their work experience in a short week-long block. Whatever the placement looks like, we always support the pupil, but can adapt this to the individual’s requirements. Some may require a staff member to work shadow them for the duration of the placement, whereas others may need help travelling to/from their workplace.

We offer a wide range of work experience, with previous placements in a variety of industries, including:

  • Catering
  • Conservation (e.g. Pond Head Conservation Trust)
  • Horticulture
  • Hospitality
  • Leisure (e.g. Golf clubs)
  • Local riding stables
  • Retail (e.g. a cycle shop)
  • Stud farm
