Careers advice at Hurworth House School

We’re committed to helping young people build bright, fulfilling futures. Our careers programme is designed to inspire ambition and provide the tools, knowledge and experiences each student needs to make confident decisions about their next steps—whether that’s further education, training or employment.

We provide a supportive, structured programme of careers education and real-world opportunities, tailored to each student’s interests, strengths and aspirations.

How we support your child’s future

We’re proud to have achieved the Quality in Careers Standard Award, delivered by the Education Development Trust. This national recognition reflects the commitment of our team and the ambition of our students—to prepare for life beyond school.

Our careers programme includes:

Dedicated careers education

Careers lessons are built into the curriculum from Key Stage 3 onwards, helping students develop self-awareness, understand their options and start future planning early.

One-to-one guidance

Students have access to personalised support from qualified staff who help them identify their interests, explore career paths and plan for further education or employment.

Transition planning

Careers support is embedded into our wider transition framework. We work closely with families and professionals to create realistic, supportive plans for life after school.

Employer engagement

We build links with local businesses and organisations to give students insight into different careers through talks, site visits and mentoring opportunities.

External careers resources

Students can access a range of careers platforms and services to explore routes into education, training, and employment.

Previous placements have included:

  • Care homes

Each placement is carefully planned helping students gain valuable insight, develop practical skills and build self-belief in a setting that suits them.
