Get to know Newbury Manor School

Who we support

Newbury Manor School is an independent specialist school near Frome. We support young people aged 6-19 with a diagnosis of autism and associated SEN needs, learning difficulties and developmental delays.

We provide personalised education in a calm, nurturing environment helping each young person grow in confidence, rediscover their love of learning, and realise their full potential.

Many of our pupils have experienced disrupted education and we’re here to offer a fresh start with specialist teaching and therapeutic support that works the way students think and learn.

Our location

Our school is located in a beautiful, rural location in Somerset. Formerly a Georgian manor house, Newbury Manor School has a range of outbuildings and extensive grounds.

The school is easily accessible to those within a large geographical area, being only 5 miles from Frome and 8 miles from Bath. We are just 80 minutes by train from London Paddington.

What makes Newbury Manor School unique?

As a school, we have developed a particular specialism in supporting students with very high levels of anxiety, sensory needs, attachment difficulties and pathological demand avoidance.

Many of our young people have experienced school-based trauma and school avoidance. We have a very experienced staff team, with particular strengths in integrating pupils back into a school environment through careful and needs-based strategies for engagement.

Our relaxed, peaceful and rural location allows us to create an environment that does not immediately feel “school-like” for our young people experiencing trauma and anxiety.

Our focus is on removing any barriers which might stop our young people from becoming successful adults. At Newbury Manor School, the focus is not only on gaining qualifications, but also on developing the other skills required to fully utilise those academic skills. We focus on a wide range of factors within each pupil’s life to ensure that all obstacles are overcome.
