How we enrich the curriculum

At Progress School, we know that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. That’s why we offer a wide range of enrichment activities designed to help young people build confidence, explore new interests and discover what makes them feel good—mentally, physically and emotionally.

We provide opportunities for our young people to try new things in a way that suits their learning style. If gentle encouragement is what it takes then we take small steps. We believe that developing skills and connecting with their community should feel meaningful and fun.

Activities beyond the classroom

We offer a wide range of community based activities matched to each pupil’s needs and interests.

  • Horse riding
  • Orienteering
  • Swimming and kayaking
  • Trips to the cinema and theatre
  • Visits to our local sensory centre

Shining in our community

Connecting with our community is key to helping young people grow in confidence and purpose. That’s why we actively build strong links with local businesses, charities and organisations. We create real-world opportunities that help students gain experience, give back, and feel proud of their contribution.

Here’s how we connect:

  • Regular visits to the community hall for PE
  • Host a termly café for all our parents, stakeholders and members of the community
  • Our pupils raise money for the local hospice via sponsored walks
  • Work experience placements at local shops and cafés

These community links don’t just build practical skills—they help young people feel involved in the world around them.
