We take a personalised approach to education

At Progress School we offer a carefully planned curriculum based on the individual abilities of our pupils. This is underpinned by a therapeutic approach and offers each young person a balance of teacher led and enquiry based learning, and practical application of skills within the community.

As well as developing academically we focus on developing speech, language and communication skills, and promoting our pupils understanding of their sensory needs. We value pupil voice and provide a curriculum which promotes oracy skills. Interwoven throughout our curriculum are opportunities for personal development and preparation for adulthood. We have exceptionally high aspirations for all our pupils and these aspirations can be achieved through our personalised, bespoke curriculum. A curriculum which is inclusive of pupil’s interests, promotes independence and problem-solving skills, nurtures creative thinkers and inspires passive learners.

Key facilities at our school

Our facilities are designed to feel calm, welcoming and accessible. Here’s what pupils can expect:

  • Access to their own room, designed for their special interest and sensory needs. This provides a safe space for each young person, some of whom have previously had negative experiences of education
  • Sensory rooms that provide a calm and relaxing environment
  • Outside play area with swings and bikes

Our therapy and support services

All pupils are assessed by the speech and Language Therapist and the Occupational Therapist as part of their transition into school. An individual programme is then designed ,and all pupils receive 1:1 therapeutic input from the in-house therapy team several times a week or as needed.

To compliment this approach our pupils always have access to bespoke sensory equipment and communication support. Highly trained staff work with the pupils ensuring that their therapeutic needs are met all times.
