We take a personalised approach to education

At The Ribble Autism School, our curriculum is highly ambitious, specialist and varied. It’s designed to ensure that it meets their individual needs and supports pupils to develop knowledge and skills as appropriate to their age, ability and stage of development.

Our curriculum has clearly defined goals:

  • To learn skills for life
  • To build cultural capital to allow them to function with age, stage and ability appropriate independence within society
  • To build firm foundations for their future lives

We excel at creating space spaces in which our pupils can thrive, re-engage with their education, and make outstanding progress. We ensure all learning styles are fully met, and that all our pupils are being challenged to grow and develop socially, emotionally and academically, with the delivery of a supportive therapeutic curriculum.

Our curriculum

With small class sizes and high levels of individual support, every young person can access learning in a way that works for them.

Curriculum pathways

Each young person is placed on a curriculum pathway that is thoughtfully developed to meet their needs. This ensures they have access to lessons which provide progressive learning opportunities, and enables them to learn new skills and knowledge, whilst embedding prior learning.

Our curriculum includes:

  • The Equals curriculum
  • The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
  • The National curriculum
  • Social, Communication, Emotional, Regulation, Transactional Supports (SCERTS)

Our therapy and support services

We are committed to supporting young people to explore and overcome their challenges through a range of therapeutic environments and services. We have an in-house therapy team which delivers services that are tailored to young people’s needs and are available whenever they need them.

Our therapy team includes:

  • A behaviour analyst
  • Speech and language therapists
  • Sensory-trained occupational therapists

Our multidisciplinary therapy team makes a real difference in helping young people at our school manage their behaviour. Whether an individual is demonstrating outwardly aggressive, challenging behaviours or anxiety-driven behaviours, we will proactively work on appropriate strategies to support them and their personal needs.

Our speech and language therapists also offer training to parents/carers who are interested in learning more about their child’s communication.
