How we support your child's future

At Sketchley School, we are committed to delivering a high-quality, inclusive careers education programme that supports all students from Year 7 to Year 13 (ages 12–18) in making informed decisions about their future pathways. In line with the statutory guidance and our funding agreement, we ensure that every young person receives meaningful careers guidance and encounters with a range of education and training providers.

Careers Programme Overview

Our careers programme is designed to meet the needs of all learners, including those with additional needs, and is structured around the Gatsby Benchmarks. It includes:

  • Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9): Focus on self-awareness, understanding the world of work, and preparation for Key Stage 4 options.
  • Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11): Support with decision-making, employability skills, work experience, and transition planning.
  • Key Stage 5 (Years 12–13): Guidance on higher education, apprenticeships, employment, and independent career planning.

Students have access to:

  • Careers advisors from Year 8 onwards
  • Work experience placements (in-school and external)
  • College and university visits
  • Guest speakers and employer engagement events
  • Careers and work experience portfolios from Year 8
  • Digital platforms such as Xello for career exploration and planning
  • Accredited programmes including ASDAN Employability, which develops practical skills for work and life

Provider Access Statement (Baker Clause Compliance)

Sketchley School welcomes requests from providers of technical education, apprenticeships, and further education to speak with our students. We are committed to providing at least six meaningful encounters with providers between Year 8 and Year 13, as required by law.

  • Access opportunities include:
  • Assemblies and workshops
  • Careers fairs and themed weeks (e.g. National Careers Week)
  • Guest speaker sessions
  • Virtual and live presentations
  • Visits to external providers

 

How to request access

Providers wishing to engage with our students should contact:

Requests will be considered based on:

  • Timetabling and availability
  • Safeguarding and supervision requirements
  • Relevance to student needs and curriculum

Facilities including rooms with IT access will be provided, and all visits will be supervised by school staff.

 

Monitoring and Evaluation

Our careers programme is reviewed annually by the Careers Lead and Senior Leadership Team. Feedback from students, parents, and providers informs ongoing development.

Careers-related activities are tracked and recorded using our assessment platform, Evidence for Learning.
