How we enrich the curriculum

At Sketchley School, we know that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. That’s why we offer a wide range of enrichment activities designed to help young people build confidence, explore new interests and discover what makes them feel good—mentally, physically and emotionally.

We provide opportunities for our young people to try new things in a way that suits their learning style. If gentle encouragement is what it takes then we take small steps. We believe that developing skills and connecting with their community should feel meaningful and fun.

PSHE and activities beyond the classroom

We help young people understand their autism diagnosis, explore emotions, build healthy relationships and stay safe—both online and offline. PSHE also empowers our pupils to make informed choices about careers, money, and their wider futures. These core values are not only explicitly taught, but are woven throughout our wider curriculum, everyday interactions, and enrichment opportunities.

Our young people also get involved in activities outside the classroom including:

  • Swimming in our school pool
  • A variety of interest-based lunch clubs
  • A wide range of sports including football and basketball
  • Exercise on our outdoor gym equipment
  • School trips and educational visits

Shining in our community

Connecting with our community is key to helping young people grow in confidence and purpose. That’s why we actively build strong links with local businesses, charities and organisations. We create real-world opportunities that help students gain experience, give back, and feel proud of their contribution.

These community links don’t just build practical skills—they help young people feel involved in the world around them.
