Hobbit House achieves fifth Outstanding Ofsted rating

Hobbit House, an Aspris children’s home in Kent, has received its fifth consecutive Outstanding rating from Ofsted.

Following an inspection in January 2026, the home received a glowing report with the top rating in all areas.

Inspectors described the home as homely and calm, noting that children feel loved and supported, adding:

“A real strength of the home is how the staff know and meet their individual needs. This includes their ethnicity, culture and identity, which staff support and promote in a very natural way. Staff celebrate the children’s skills and talents, and they demonstrate enormous pride in the children and their achievements.”

The report shared an example of how young people are encouraged to follow their passions and make fun memories, with the team arranging for one young person to meet their hero, a world-famous jockey, at the Grand National. The young person described it as the best day of their life.

The team at the home were also recognised in the Aspris Awards 2025, winning the Through Hardship to the Stars category for their incredible resilience and dedication in supporting a young person through life-threatening health issues.

This was noted by Ofsted, who wrote:

“One child with complex medical needs requires an extensive amount of ever-changing medication. While this can be challenging and anxiety provoking for staff, they manage this well.

“Systems have been developed to ensure that medication regimes are managed safely, recognising that the child’s health and wellbeing are paramount. Medical staff have praised the staff at the home for their ‘exceptional level of care and emotional support provided to children’.”

The home’s Registered Manager, Tracey Baker, said:

“This report shows the dedication our team has to provide a safe, comforting place for our young people to live and support them in achieving their goals.

“Our young people are at the heart of everything we do, and it’s incredibly uplifting to know that shines through to the inspectors.

“Thank you to our wonderful team, who have gone above and beyond to provide outstanding care and support to our young people and each other.”
