Rugeley School have been awarded an advanced accreditation from the National Autistic Society (NAS), following a rigorous assessment process.
The Aspris independent specialist school supports young people aged 5-19 with autism and associated learning difficulties. Their aim is to help young people to lead fulfilling, happy, meaningful lives – and securing this accreditation is proof that’s exactly what they do!
To achieve the NAS advanced accreditation, Rugeley School had to meet 11 criteria points by demonstrating they have fundamental principles of good practice in supporting autistic people in place. The three-part accreditation journey included submission of a self-audit, action plan and case studies; a confidential survey completed by young people and their families; and an inspection from a NAS assessor, who observed activity, interviewed colleagues and scrutinised support plans.
The assessment findings were reviewed by the Autism Accreditation Committee, who congratulated Rugeley School for “demonstrating standards of excellence in supporting autistic students”. They said “staff at Rugeley School are confident in a wide range of specialist approaches and use methods that are highly tailored to what works best for each individual student. Support is grounded in a strong understanding of students’ communication, sensory, learning and emotional needs”. The final decision report also commented on how positive the feedback was from the young people and their families, highlighting that “98% of students agreed that the help they receive is good”.
