Sedgemoor Manor School achieves strong standard for inclusion in recent Ofsted report

In its most recent Ofsted inspection, Sedgemoor Manor School achieved a strong standard in inclusion, with inspectors calling it “the bedrock of the school’s success”. Ofsted said the school works “closely with families and other wider professionals so that they understand pupils’ needs well”. Inspectors also noted that colleagues “explicitly outline the strategies and support that pupils need to be successful, engaged and independent learners”, which consistently provides “the support pupils need to flourish”.

Helping students meet their academic potential

Sedgemoor Manor School, an Aspris specialist school for pupils aged 7 to 19 with autism and associated complex needs, provides specialist educational, vocational and therapeutic care services. Working flexibly, they pride themselves on offering aspirational pathways to accreditation so students can meet their academic potential. This is endorsed in the report which says that “pupils acquire a range of qualifications” meaning “they are well prepared for their next stage of education, employment or training”.

Nurturing pupils to feel safe and secure

Throughout the report, which rated Sedgemoor Manor School as meeting expected standards in all other areas, leaders and colleagues were celebrated for their unity in supporting the young people and their families, helping to rebuild their trust education. It says they “turn pupils’ previous negative experiences of school into a positive one”. “Warm, caring relationships permeate the school” and through colleagues “nurture and compassion, they help pupils overcome their anxieties to feel safe and secure”.

John Gordon, proud Headteacher, said

“We are delighted that the report recognises the many strengths of our wonderful school. In particular, Ofsted highlighted the meticulous approach to reviewing the impact of EHCP strategies, a well-taught and wide-ranging curriculum and staff providing highly effective support to help every pupil learn successfully. This is testament to the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils and the ongoing support of our parents and governing body. We’re proud of what has been achieved and remain committed to building on this success as we continue to provide the very best education for our community”.
