Tor View School in Tavistock recognised for autism and trauma informed focus

Tor View School, part of Aspris, is an independent school providing specialist education services to young people between the ages of 7 to 18 years with identified special educational needs. This includes autism, communication and interaction needs, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), and attachment related conditions.

In the last year, the school has gained recognition for its unique approach to providing personalised education in a nurturing environment, achieving accreditation by the National Autistic Society.

This follows previous success in gaining the Trauma Informed School UK (TISUK) Award, after an extensive training and assessment process, recognising the school’s commitment to supporting children and teenagers suffering with trauma and anxiety.

This accolade makes us the first of Aspris’ schools and colleges to achieve both.

The National Autistic Society is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people, and their accreditation programme is an internationally recognised quality standard which has been running for over 30 years.

Both accreditations are thanks to the school’s dedicated team. Tor View’s Headteacher, Nicola Cutler, said:

“We’re so proud to have achieved recognition from two prestigious organisations in the last year.

“At Tor View, we focus on the needs and experiences of our young people, tailoring their education so they grow in confidence, rediscover their love of learning and realise their full potential.

We will continue to provide the highest quality provision in our privileged position in working with pupils with disabilities that are not necessarily seen, but are hidden challenges.”
