How we support your child's future

Developing Skills for Life: Preparing for Adulthood

At Fromefield Manor, our careers programme is centred on preparing every young person for adulthood and securing positive, meaningful life outcomes when they leave school. Careers education is not a bolt‑on; it is an integrated and flexible part of our curriculum, shaped around the individual needs, interests and aspirations of each student.

From the moment a student joins Fromefield, we work closely with them and their families to understand:

  • The skills they want to learn
  • The skills we want all our young people to develop
  • The destinations the student, family and school hope to see when they leave us
  • Longer‑term ambitions for 5 and 10 years beyond school

Our approach recognises that young people develop at different rates. Flexibility is key, and our careers offer evolves as students build confidence, independence and employability skills.

Our Careers Approach

We believe that preparation for adulthood should:

  • Be personalised and aspirational
  • Develop life skills alongside employability
  • Encourage participation in the local community
  • Support students to make informed, realistic and ambitious choices for their future

We are working towards developing strong links with:

  • Local employers
  • Local colleges and training providers
  • A range of community organisations

Our careers programme is guided by the Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance, ensuring a structured, high‑quality offer for every student.

Our Careers Programme Strands

Our careers provision is delivered through a range of interconnected strands:

  • Pre‑Employment Skills
  • Engagement with the Community
  • Encounters with Employers and Employees
  • Work Experience Opportunities
  • Developing Workplace Skills
  • Business and Enterprise
  • Choosing a Job
  • Getting a Job
  • Work‑Related Learning
(including understanding workplace routines, expectations and individual rights)

These strands support students to develop confidence, independence, communication skills and a clear understanding of the world of work.
