How we enrich the curriculum

At Oliver House School, we know that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. That’s why we offer a wide range of enrichment activities designed to help young people build confidence, explore new interests and discover what makes them feel good—mentally, physically and emotionally.

We provide opportunities for our young people to try new things in a way that suits their learning style. If gentle encouragement is what it takes then we take small steps. We believe that developing skills and connecting with their community should feel meaningful and fun.

Activities beyond the classroom

The curriculum model at Oliver House School involves a lot of community-based learning, with our young people usually going off-site at least once per day. We offer a range of community-based activities for our young people, according to their individual needs and preferences.

These tailored activities include:

  • Bowling, swimming, and trampolining
  • Climbing, orienteering, watersports and cycling
  • Trips to the local library, museums and historical buildings
  • Gardening and nature projects
  • Visiting farms and horse riding
  • Safe play and sensory centres
  • Walking and visiting the local parks
  • Work experience and volunteering opportunities
  • Participation in the Junior Award Scheme (JAS) and Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Shining in our community

Connecting with our community is key to helping young people grow in confidence and purpose. That’s why we actively build strong links with local businesses, charities and organisations. We create real-world opportunities that help students gain experience, give back, and feel proud of their contribution.

These community links don’t just build practical skills—they help young people feel involved in the world around them.
