How we enrich the curriculum

At Strathmore College, we know that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom. That’s why we offer a wide range of enrichment activities designed to help young people build confidence, explore new interests and discover what makes them feel good—mentally, physically and emotionally.

We provide opportunities for our young people to try new things in a way that suits their learning style. If gentle encouragement is what it takes then we take small steps. We believe that developing skills and connecting with their community should feel meaningful and fun.

Activities beyond the classroom

Here are just some of the extra activities our young people can get involved in:

  • Participating in the Duke of Edinburgh award
  • A range of curriculum-led field trips
  • Visiting shops and the local library
  • Fun trips to places such as Alton Towers and Harry Potter World
  • Sports and exercise at the local leisure centre

Shining in our community

Connecting with our community is key to helping young people grow in confidence and purpose. That’s why we actively build strong links with local businesses, charities and organisations. We create real-world opportunities that help students gain experience, give back, and feel proud of their contribution.

Here’s how we connect:

  • Volunteering at local businesses such as Tittesworth Reservoir, Sherratts Wood Farm and Ford Green Hall
  • Winning the Gled Enterprise Award with Wildlife and Birdcare which demonstrated the value of young people in the work place
  • Our partnership working with the local employer was recognised and celebrated for its community commitment
  • Our students worked with a local employer to create a sculpture that expressed their thoughts about Stoke-on-Trent. Positioned at Trentham Gardens, it’s celebrated by many and called lovingly named the ‘Heart of Stoke-on-Trent’.

These community links don’t just build practical skills—they help young people feel involved in the world around them.
