At our college, we work closely with families and local authorities to make sure our setting is the right fit for each young person. Using tailored care and support, we shape your child’s life helping them grow into the person you know they’ll become.
Admissions criteria
Strathmore College provides individualised learning programmes for young people aged 16-25 with a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
Most of our students are on the autism spectrum, ranging from those with high functioning autism to those with complex behaviour needs. A significant number also have associated mental health/wellbeing needs and a co-morbid diagnosis.
We also welcome students with a range of other conditions including Down Syndrome, emotional and social behaviour issues, speech and language difficulties and other health related, mental or physical difficulties.
Admissions Process:

Consultations are received by Strathmore College from the Local Authority.
- Initial review of information provided and gathering of additional information. This may include contacting other professionals who know the young person e.g.current and previous education placements, health care providers etc.

Contact is made with parent/carers and initial visit arranged. Discussions regarding interests, aspirations and programmes that Strathmore College can offer take place as part of the initial visit.

Continuation of information gathering by Strathmore College.

Students are invited to attend an initial assessment. This usually takes the form of activity that takes place in college, but can be arranged at current educational provision if required.

If Strathmore College can meet the needs of the student, a programme is written and sent to the Local Authority.

The Local Authority review the programme and supplementary information.

A decision is made by the Local Authority and if agreed Strathmore College is named in the student’s EHCP. This is communicated to parents/carers and Strathmore College.

If Strathmore College is named in a student’s EHCP contact will be made with parents/carers to agree on a personalised transition programme.
Places at Strathmore College are available to all students, irrespective of current education placement.
