We take a personalised approach to education

Our personalised curriculum

Strathmore College offers young people a highly-personalised curriculum that covers core subjects through the individual programmes that students follow.

Individual progression routes are developed based on the young person’s goals, career aspirations and life goals. Programmes are developed encompassing four pathways:

  1. Employment
  2. Further education and training
  3. Independent living
  4. Friends, relationships, community and good health

A blend of non-accredited and accredited learning paves the way for young people to progress through academic and vocational qualifications. Communication, English and Maths are core skills developed throughout the curriculum and focus on enabling learners to have a greater range of skills to function more independently within society and next stage of life.

We have three, satellite facilities, two provide practical opportunities through which work skills and disciplines are embedded:

  • The Hot House is our base for developing industry skills including carpentry, metal design and trade – take a tour here
  • Ansley Tea rooms is our community-based café, providing opportunities to develop customer service, food preparation and kitchen skills – take a tour here

Our well-established links with employers and local partners widens our curriculum offer, enabling us to provide practical and meaningful opportunities through which our students engage and learn exceptionally well.

Our therapy and support services

The use of therapy is fundamental to what we do here at Strathmore College. We believe it helps our young people immensely and is the big difference between us and a mainstream setting. We use therapy to develop the core elements of social and personal development and remove barriers to learning, creating a shift in our young people’s lives, helping to boost their capacity to learn and achieve.

Our central Strathmore College hub has a dedicated therapy room where learners can work with our professional team either individually or in small groups. We also have a quiet room which gives students a safe, quiet space where they can have time out if they get anxious or needs to self-regulate.
