At Talocher School, we offer a tailored, therapeutic curriculum designed to meet the individual learning needs of our young people. We combine academic learning with practical skills, emotional support and personal development—helping every pupil grow in confidence and discover their strengths.

With small class sizes and high levels of individual support, every young person can access learning in a way that works for them.

Key facilities at our school

Our facilities are designed to feel calm, welcoming and accessible. Here’s what students can expect:

  • A forest school area with outdoor classroom
  • An ELSA room, sensory room and calm rooms
  • A multi-use games area including football and basketball
  • A sports hall and gym
  • An outdoor playground

Our therapy and support services

Our dedicated therapy room provides our young people with quick and easy access to different types of therapy and support including:

  • Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA)
  • Art and play
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

We also work with external partners to provide:

  • Equine Therapy
  • Counsellors, providing access to a psychology and psychiatry
  • Music

Whilst it is always up to the young person if they want to participate, we believe that therapy can be extremely beneficial. Careful and well-informed therapeutic interventions can help young people to manage their conditions by:

  • Improving communication skills and their capacity to learn
  • Giving pupils opportunities to reflect on their feelings and experiences
  • Improving relationships
  • Helping pupils to learn how to cope with adversities
  • Allowing pupils to move on in a positive frame of mind
  • Improving self-esteem, self-regulation and distress tolerance
