Life at Tor View School for Parents & Carers

At Tor View School, we understand that every child’s journey is unique and so is every family’s.

When your child joins us, you become part of a supportive, understanding community where communication, care and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.

We believe that strong partnerships with families make all the difference. That’s why we ensure communication is open and honest, expectations are clear, and support is consistent so you always feel informed, reassured and involved in your child’s development.

Below, you’ll find practical information about day-to-day life at Tor View School, helping you understand how we support your child to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

Monday to Friday: 09:00-15:00

Our standard school day runs from 09:00 to 15:00. However, we understand that for some pupils, a full day or busy transition times can be overwhelming.

Where needed, we can discuss and agree adjusted start or finish times, such as earlier or later pick-ups, to better support individual needs.

We aim for all pupils to wear our school uniform, and a polo top and jumper is provided when a pupil first starts with us.

This helps promote a sense of belonging and consistency across the school.

School hats available at an additional cost

However, we recognise that for pupils with autism, wearing standard uniform can sometimes be challenging due to sensory sensitivities. In these cases, we take a flexible and understanding approach. Pupils may wear alternative clothing that is comfortable and suitable for their needs, while still being appropriate for a school environment.

Our priority is that all pupils feel safe, comfortable and ready to learn, and we will work closely with families to support this.

We place great importance on keeping parents and carers fully informed and involved in their child’s development. We do this through:

-Weekly phone calls to share updates, celebrate successes, and discuss any concerns
-Termly progress meetings, including reviews of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ongoing development of EHCP targets
-Regular written updates, through home–school communication books (where appropriate)
-Parent meetings, workshops, and school events to encourage engagement and collaboration

We value strong partnerships with families and work closely together to ensure each pupil receives the support they need to thrive.

At Tor View School, pupils are provided with healthy, balanced meals prepared by our on-site chef, with individual dietary needs carefully catered for. Pupils are also welcome to bring their own packed lunches if they prefer. For some pupils, there is the opportunity to access our fully equipped teaching kitchens, where they can prepare and cook their own lunches.

Lunch is organised across three sittings, and pupils dine in a social and relaxed atmosphere in the dining room.
